I just managed to do it.
On my SSD, doing the 10800 image load by itself took about 5:42; the
thumbnail generation (with the threads dialed back a bit) took maybe
3:30, for a total of over 9 minutes. Combining the two took 5:58.
I'm going to have to go back and try it on the spinning rust, but I
expect at least that much relative savings.
