[KPhotoAlbum] Thanks for 4.7.1 & kipi (sendimage) crash...

Hello all,

First, thanks for the improvements in 4.7.1, particularly the Lens
Info addition to EXIF. Had been trying to figure out a way to do
this outside of kphoto, since my coding skills were (are) not up to
adding it myself.

Anyway, successfully compiled 4.7.1 awhile back and it has been
working well... Until I tried to email photos via the kipi-plugins.

Email images plugin used to work fine, but now crashes whenever I try to send.

Noting now that it does not crash if I unselect "Adjust Image
Properties" - though I rather need this option!

Any help / ideas? I did not recomplile kipi, but did take newer
versions from backports. Running Debian Jessie, LXDE.

Noting also that some of the other plugins crash as well, though I
had not used them much before so not sure of behavior.

What am I doing wrong? Hmm... Worked fine before I compiled
4.7.1. Searched for others with a similar problem, but didn't find anything.

Thanks,
-n

This sounds like you upgraded your system's kipi, but did not recompile
kphotoalbum. At least that's the most common source of kipi-related crashes in
my experience…

Can you verify that your libkipi-dev package has the same version number as
the kipi plugins, and then recompile kphotoalbum to make sure it has been
built against the same version as well?

I assume that the same crash does not happen e.g. in gwenview?

If the recompilation does not help, could you please send the relevant version
information? I.e. the output of the following commands:

# package versions:
dpkg -l "libkipi*" "kipi-plugins*"
# kipi version that KPA links against:
ldd `which kphotoalbum` |grep kipi

Johannes

Somehow that must have been it? Followed the same sequence as before
- compiling everything, and now it works?!? Must have missed a step
in the first round. Not sure which. Ah well...
(and yes, worked in digiKam all along...)

Thanks,

You have likely not missed a step.

The cause was very probably that libkipi was upgraded but kphotoalbum was not
re-linked. Simply rebuilding kphotoalbum is a reliable fix in such
instances...

Johannes
