[KPhotoAlbum] Major photo orientation problem

Hi,

BACKGROUND
For some reason some of my KIPI plugins have global shortcuts. They are not
visible in the 'global hotkeys' settings but I've noticed some behaviour
like this also earlier when running KPA in the background: some shortkeys
run actions in KPA instead of the app I'm using. I think at some point I
have already cleared them from there.

Also at some point I've noticed that KPA shows my images incorrectly
rotated (ie. many horizontal images are shown 90 degrees rotated). I've
earlier thought it's a problem in KPA or some of the libraries it's using.
This I first realized in the KPA android app and already wrote about it to
Jesper blaiming the KPA app..

ACTION
Yesterday while writing e-mail with KPA in the background I noticed KPA
(Kipi plugin most likely) rotating my images. As I hadn't seen the window
before I was sure it's KIPI and touching the files. It didn't took me long
to realize what's happening and I immediately killed KPA.

ANALYSIS
Now I did some checks from my backups and yes - it looks like that many of
my photos (only horizontal jpg, not vertical, not RAW) have been rotated 90
degrees, on disk. Not (only) in KPA.
For example same file on disk and in backups:

(old) BACKUP
File Size : 1160 kB
Image Size : 2048x1536
File Modification Date/Time : 2005:12:11 10:04:10+02:00
File Access Date/Time : 2015:11:22 20:47:36+02:00
File Inode Change Date/Time : 2014:03:01 15:03:29+02:00

Date/Time Original : 2003:10:17 23:25:09
Create Date : 2003:10:17 23:25:09

ON DISK / KPA ARCHIVE
File Size : 1135 kB
Image Size : 1536x2048
File Modification Date/Time : 2005:12:11 10:04:10+02:00
File Access Date/Time : 2011:11:05 21:20:52+02:00
File Inode Change Date/Time : 2015:02:16 19:01:12+02:00
Modify Date : 2003:10:17 23:25:09
Date/Time Original : 2003:10:17 23:25:09
Create Date : 2003:10:17 23:25:09

(Does this mean that this current file propably has been rotated Feb/2015?)

1) Any speculation on how this all could have happened?
2) If I restore the original, correctly rotated images from my backups to
the folders, should the database still work or will it see them as a
different images and not assign tags? ie. How do I recover from this
without having to go back to full previous backup?

Hi,

Wow, that's quite an insidious behaviour that you are seeing...

Looks like it...

Sorry, I don't have any clue.

Since the path name won't change, KPA will see the image as the same one, not
a new one. You should, however, run «Maintenance | Recalculate Checksums»
after you recovered the files from backup.

Hi!

Some rotation-associated problems have been fixed during the last year (or
so), but none have had to do with KIPI plugins.

I also have no clue about the problem ... can you reproduce it somehow?
Probably with a testing database, so that you don't mess up your collection?

Cheers, Tobias
